Switzerland’s Geneva-based forum on its website on Wednesday evening announced the name of Palak and other leaders, under the age of 40, who had been nominated.
The state minister for ICT was among the 12 leaders from South Asia to be nominated for the honour.
The forum said Palak was selected in recognition of his professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world through his leadership, the release said.
Every year, this think tank recognises the most distinguished leaders aged below 40 from various fields across the globe.
As a recipient of the title, Palak will now be invited to take part in the think tank’s different conferences and workshops over the next five years.
“He will also get support from this forum for his unique initiative to reshape the world,” the release said.
Palak is currently attending an event at the Centre for Office Automation, Information Technology and Telecommunication (CeBIT) at Hanover in Germany.
In his reaction, Palak said from Hanover he was “honoured to be given this prestigious recognition that would allow him the extensive opportunity to connect with the global diverse community”.
“Now we will be able to take our vision-2021, a time-bound roadmap that has been envisioned by our tech-savvy Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and directed by the renowned global tech-personality Sajeeb Wazed Joy, throughout the globe through the Young Global Leadership platform.”
“I would like to dedicate this reward to the people of Bangladesh whom our father of nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman loved the most,” Palak added.
He was elected to Parliament in 2008 at the age of 28. He was re-elected in 2014 and sworn in as a state minister on Jan 12, 2014.
“He has been playing a very proactive role in enhancing quality of life of the general people by leveraging ICT,” the ICT ministry said.
“He has shown great commitment to promote IT/ ITeS industry, innovation and IT entrepreneurship and expand e- governance and e-service delivery platform in Bangladesh.”
Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Advisor Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy got this prestigious nomination in 2007.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Google co-founder Larry Page, Alibaba founder Jack Maa and actor Leonardo DiCaprio had also got this recognition earlier.
